Retrofit Skills Courses: EWI, Lime Plastering and Pointing

The School of Natural Building is launching a brand new series of courses aimed at home owners and professionals looking to gain practical retrofit skills!

We’re starting in Todmorden (accessible from Manchester, Leeds and Yorkshire) and offering courses in April and May. These aren’t taster days or product demonstrations - you’ll be completing real work on real projects with theory and practical skill embedded throughout.

  • 3-day Lime Pointing Course: Tue 21st - Thur 22nd April

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for sharing these courses! I am sure they will be of interest to members. I think we have already been in touch, but I will be including these in our upcoming newsletter.

Sounds very interesting.

Indeed I would love to come around, but these courses are very long and in the middle of the week. So not really accessible to me. I have been to a ‘taster’ session with Wormersleys, but it is not very detailed with basically a couple of hours of practice. Would love to have something in between this very short and a week long course (like a full day or maximum two days over the weekend). Just putting that out there… :wink: .

However, me and some others in this forum are just in the process of doing some IWI with wood fibre and lime plastering. Any chance you can advise us a little?

Hey carbon co-op community! Just passing through to remind about these courses

Next week we have a 3-day Lime Pointing course with Lime Worker, Joanne Richards in Todmorden, West Yorkshire (Currently spaces left, including the final subsidised spot). 21-23 April. You’ll get skills and practice of the whole re-pointing process working on a Victorian Sandstone Terrace, with transferrable application to other masonry types

In May we have the first edition of our 5-day EWI and Lime Plastering course, again in Todmorden. (There are currently 3 subsidised spots still available!) 13-17 May. Again working on a real project, you will cover correct setting out and application of external wood fibre boards, detailing around windows, under eaves and finishing with lime plaster.

Vital theory about lime, building physics and costs is woven through all courses.

Would be fantastic to see some of the Carbon Co-op community there!
