Finding window installers with basic retrofit knowledge

We are planning to install triple glazed upvc windows in our Victorian house in Manchester.

And are looking for installers who use/or know about using compression tape - and/or who have some basic understanding (or even knowledge) of retrofit practices.

Does anyone know of any installers like this we could contact?

I have no personal experience, and anyway I’m far from Greater Manchester, where most members are found, but judging by his posts on here I would suggest @Russell_Selby could be a good contact to either do the job or suggest a suitable other person.

Thanks very much for this Tim

Hey Sarah,
I personally can not do it at the moment. As you can imagine you need at least 2 or three people depending on the window.

I have two people in mind that i will ask. Based in Manchester. Can you tell me a little bit about the job.

Which part of Manchester are you in?

Number of window units,
Number of doors,
Number of ground and first floor windows.

Estimated delivery date, if that has been organised already?
Will the windows be delivered preglazed, or glazing and frame seperate?

Is it a stand alone job, or is there coordination needed with other trades as part of a larger refurb project?

and anything else you think might be useful.

cheers

Hi Russell,

Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, we need 5 triple glazed windows (ground and first floor) and 3 doors (ground floor - composite and in cellar - double glazed).

So far we’ve only got quotes to see about potential costs. It was suggested we use the Liniar profile system, by PPR - these can be ordered fairly locally from firms that just manufacture and then get fitted by an installer.

We’re in Levenshulme.

Any suggestions for contacts would be useful. Should I contact you directly maybe through LinkedIn?

It is possible to start a direct message between members by tapping on their profile and selecting “Message”.

Thanks Tim, still getting to grips with using this forum.

We used Green Building Store, now 21 degrees, for both supply and fitting.

Every aspect of it was superb. Cannot recommend them enough.

We love in Fallowfield.

I could be wrong, but you would have to buy the timber frame windows from them too?
I assume they dont sell PVC?

But if timber frames are also a potential then maybe these guys… Built Green Windows | Eco Friendly | Triple Glazing | Triple Glazed

I dont know the company, but i have experience with their windows, an estonian company called Viking. very good high quality and last time i checked relativly cheap. Of course not cheap compared to PVC.

Hi Alan, Thanks for this.

Yes we know they are good - but sadly, they’re beyond our budget.

As far as we’re aware they don’t do pvc.

Fair enough.

We wanted wooden frames and good u-values, and they were actually way way cheaper than any other wooden framed windows. But I do appreciate that sadly wood is a lot more expensive than pvc. And no they don’t pvc.
