This month we have the rescheduled Home Energy Model (HEM), EcoHome Lab event. Due to some recent issues with Meetup we are having a go at posting the event directly on the forum. It will still have all the information on Meetup as well for now - but we hope this will be easier.
We will make sure to share the link to the event shortly before kick-off. @matt and I will keep an eye on this thread to troubleshoot any issues and make sure to keep you all updated.
For over 30 years the methodology used to gauge the energy and carbon performance of UK buildings has been the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP), but all that is about to change. Over the past few years Government has been working with building professionals to develop the Home Energy Model (HEM) which is due for publication shortly.
We are very pleased to be joined by Marianne Heaslip, the Technical Director of People Powered Retrofit (https://retrofit.coop) who has been working as part of HEM’s quality assurance and verification team. The session will introduce the key principles of the new methodology, how it differs from SAP and what that means for how we model buildings to inform regulation (like EPCs) and design.
HEM looks to be a watershed moment for the residential construction industry, so insights from PPR is vital, early information for professionals and interested homeowners.
Will this session be made public (e.g. on https://www.youtube.com/@carbonco-op) soon after for a wider audience?
We are definitely going to be recording the session, and can find a way to make it available on request. I am not sure at this stage if we will be able to make it publicly available on our YouTube, but I will keep you up-to-date on this.
I’d love to get a link to the recording too. My youngest managed to keep me from the meeting until late and then I discovered that I needed to download a hitherto unknown app in order to participate. By the time that was done it wasn’t worth joining.
Hi everyone! Thanks for your patience while we wrap things up behind the scenes.
We’re just doing a final check with our speaker to ensure they’re happy with the recording. As soon as we have the green light, I’ll share the link for those who missed the live session.
@Tim_Gilbert, sorry to hear you had a bit of a hurdle joining us! It’s usually a smooth browser experience, so I’m surprised it nudged you toward an app. We’re always looking for the most accessible ways to connect, and unfortunately there is no perfect solution for everyone!
The app was the Google Meet app, which I had never heard of. Anyway, it’s on my phone now, so next time should be simpler. Maybe it was because my only computer is my smart phone. The meetings may not be compatible with my operating system or browser.
We don’t have a session planned for this month, but the May session will be on designing a retrofit for energy flexibility, which will be announced soon.
