Hi all. I am planning to put 160mm steico special dry above the rafters as part of installing a warm roof. The problem is finding a company that has it in stock as it would be great to take advantage of the good weather and start soon and the builder is ready. Does anyone know of a company that might have it in stock? Had no luck so far with googling. An alternative is to have two layers- of 100 and 60mm . Would interstitial condensation be a risk?
Could anyone anticipate other problems - increase labour in installation would be one I can think of. Is this a sensible solution to the problem?
Thank you for reading. Jo
Yes, there is additional labour but 2 layers allows for staggering the joints.
Interstitial condensation shouldn’t be an issue except perhaps in cavities. Care is required to ensure unbroken contact between the layers.
I would fix the thicker layer nearer the habitable space and the thinner further from it.
Conventionally in this county that is described as the thicker layer on the warm side etc but in summer and climate change that may not be the case for long.
Exactly what Tim said, but also fixings might need some thought.. have you chatted to your builder? If doing two layers are you fixing twice, or laying the first layer with temporary fixings (and supports to walk on, if it’s not a flat roof) then using the longer fixings for 160mm through the two layers?
We did a warm roof and the (very good) builder found it challenging, by the end.
Sarking board is your friend (and can be the airtightness layer).
I used Back to Earth previously and Insulation Superstore might be worth a try. There also smaller independents.
Thank you for the suggestion, looking at the website it doesn’t seem to be a stock item but I could try ringing.
Jo
Yes it is a sloping roof. I will pass your comments on about the fixing to the builder - we are meeting tomorrow.
very good points
thank you
Jo
Thank you Tim, I will pass that on.
