Free and nearly free training

I am a founder member of this organisation but have never attended any of their events as I live well outside their boundaries.

They have far more demand than resources, so you need to be patient.

Thanks. I had a reply from them (Nic) today saying they are looking at it.

Sounds like a good place if they have a lot of work and people seem to recommend them.

It might not be exactly what you are looking for, but just to let you know that People Powered Retrofit expanded their service area a while ago to include Crewe (and even a little bit further!).

Thanks Matt. Yes, I have emailed People Powered Retrofit and they did indeed reply to say they have seen my message and will soon come back with more details. So fingers crossed.

Have you used them before or know them?

So I actually work for Carbon Co-op. People Powered Retrofit began as a Carbon Co-op project before being spun off into its own independent co-operative.

Whilst we aren’t directly connected anymore, their office is across the hall from ours, and we tend to work quite closely together.

Sorry if that wasn’t clear before!

Thanks for the update. No worries.

Will be great to hear from them.
I like that it all started as a cooperative. After all that is why I signed up here.
We need more people to work together to make change happen.

Thanks again.

Encouraged by your note, and their initial reply, I have emailed them a brief of the works on Thursday with some drawings. to find out what part if not all of the project they may be able to help with.

I am a bit unclear what exactly they can deliver, but their website states “We offer a service for householders to help you plan, procure and deliver your home retrofit.” which sounds exactly right.

Anyway, in case you meet Nic or anyone of their hub across the hall, maybe you can ask if they consider projects at the moment and if mine would be interesting. Would be good to know in terms of planning my next steps. Thanks.

Hi both,
I am continuing on my retrofit journey and have finally started to look closer into the AECB retrofit standard. I think it might be worth going for this before I actually start retrofitting. I guess I have to watch a few more videos to figure out how that would work. So far I think it means I would need an initial assessment quickly and before I start insulating.

Anyway, I still haven’t heard anything further from the retrofit coop, so not sure if they have any time.

I have watched a few webinars, but still not sure how to start this process really.

Has anybody here gone through this AECB process? Considering I want to start with underfloor insulation and extension roof insulation in the next couple of month, is the assessment all I need? Where would I even register? The AECB website is not making it obvious.

There seems to be a heavy focus on heat pump first, which I am not totally happy about considering that this means the heat pumps are oversized when they are put in, but I understand we live in a climate emergency and that would reduce our carbon emissions quickly.

Sorry about putting this into this channel, but maybe you can point me to the right place. Has this perhaps been discussed somewhere else in the forum? Ta

On the AECB website is a register of members. I suggest you look at that and find members in your area with retrofit qualifications. It is easier to deal with members direct.

They should do a detailed survey of your property and then back at the office fill in all the details in PHPP. That will give them details of what is needed and to some extent priorities. It is at this point that your wishes can be taken into account.

To eventually meet the AECB standard, level 2 you will also need to address water consumption.
