Thoughts on heat pumps

The subject of heat pumps is being brought up from time to time in various threads. As the subject is dispersed it isn’t so easy to view all relevant thoughts and facts. Maybe we will be getting a category for heat pumps one day (that’s a prompt to you, @mattfranklin!) but meanwhile please use this thread. Doing so will help others, particularly newcomers, to find what they are looking for.
